Baby shower thank-you notes
What to write in a baby shower thank-you card
Name the gift, say how it will help with the baby, and thank them for celebrating with you. If the baby has arrived, mention them by name. Hosts deserve their own note with a detail from the day.
18 examples below: Short and simple · Heartfelt · Funny · Formal
Short and simple
“Thank you for the board books! We’ve started a little library in the nursery, and yours are the first on the shelf.”
“Thank you for the car seat. Knowing the baby will be safe on that first ride home means so much to us.”
“Thank you all for the crib! It’s set up in the nursery now and it looks perfect.”
“Thank you for going in together on the high chair. It was such a generous surprise.”
“Thank you for the gift card. It’s going straight towards diapers, which we hear we’ll need a few of.”

Heartfelt
“The blanket you knitted is beautiful. We can’t believe the time and love that went into it, and it’ll be the first thing we wrap the baby in. Thank you, truly.”
“Thank you for the book you filled with advice and wishes. We read it together the night after the shower and laughed and cried in equal measure.”
“We were so touched by the photo album of family pictures. It will be such a special thing to share with our little one one day.”
“The swaddle blankets are so soft. We’ve washed them, folded them, and unfolded them again just to look at them. Thank you for thinking of us.”
“We missed you at the shower, but your gift made us feel like you were there. Thank you for the little outfits; we can’t wait to send you a picture of the baby in one.”
“Thank you for the meals you dropped off after Ava arrived. We didn’t have to think about dinner for a whole week, which was the best gift of all.”
Funny
“Thank you for the sound machine. Everyone tells us it’s a lifesaver, and we suspect we’ll be thanking you again at 3 a.m.”
“Thank you for the bottle warmer. It has been the hero of our late nights. Little Ava says thank you too, in her own way, mostly with burps.”
“We’re finally catching our breath and wanted to say thank you for the bouncer. It’s the only place she naps without being held!”
“Thank you so much for the stroller! We’ve taken it on a few practice walks around the block with nobody in it, and the neighbors have questions.”
Formal
For hosts, coworkers or family friends.
“Thank you for hosting such a beautiful shower. Every detail was perfect, from the flowers to the lemon cake, and we felt so loved. We can’t thank you enough.”
“Dear Mrs. Hughes, thank you for the lovely diaper bag sent all the way from Denver, and for your kind wishes. We look forward to introducing you to the baby.”
“Thank you for your generous gift and for celebrating with us. Your thoughtfulness is very much appreciated as we prepare for our new arrival.”
Do
- Name the gift and say how it will help: “It will be in the car seat on the ride home.”
- If the baby has arrived, mention them by name. People love that.
- Give hosts their own note, and a little extra: mention a detail from the day.
- For gift cards or cash, say what it’s for, like diapers, the nursery or the car seat.
- Keep notes and stamps by the couch. Short bursts work better than one marathon.
Don’t
- Don’t mention the amount of a cash gift or gift card.
- Don’t forget guests who sent something but couldn’t come.
- Don’t worry about being late if the baby came first; people understand.
How to write it
Open with the gift and one line about how it fits into your life with the baby: where it is, when you’ll use it, or how it’s already helped.
Add a line about the person: that they came, sent something from afar, or helped plan. Group gifts can get one note to everyone, or a short note to each person.
Sign from both of you if the shower was for both of you. Once the baby is here, some parents add the baby’s name too.
Questions
It’s expected and always appreciated, especially for gifts sent by people who couldn’t come. A short, personal note is enough.
Within two or three weeks of the shower is ideal. If the baby arrives first, sending them in the first couple of months is perfectly fine.
If the shower was for both of you, yes: sign from both of you. If it was for the mom-to-be only, she can sign alone.
Yes. A partner, parent or friend can help, as long as each note still names the gift. Be Thoughtful can draft a personal note for every guest from your gift list and mail them in real handwriting.
