Bridal shower thank-you notes
What to write in a bridal shower thank-you card
Thank each guest for the specific gift and say how you’ll use it in your new life together. Add a line about the shower itself, and give the hosts their own longer note. Bridal shower notes are usually signed by the bride alone.

Short and simple
“Thank you for the measuring cups and for coming to my shower. It was so good to see you.”
“Thank you for the gorgeous salad bowl! It’s already on the counter, waiting for its first summer party.”
“Thank you for the recipe card and the spatula set. I’ll be making your lemon bars first.”
“Thank you for mailing the cutting board all the way from Phoenix. I missed you at the shower.”
“Thank you for the robe. I’ve barely taken it off since Saturday.”

Heartfelt
“Aunt Joy, thank you for the recipe box filled with Grandma’s cards in your handwriting. I cried when I opened it, and I’ll cook from it for the rest of my life.”
“Thank you for the Dutch oven. Marcus and I made our first soup in it on Sunday, and it felt like the start of something. I’m so grateful you came to celebrate with me.”
“Thank you for the framed print of the lake house. Some of my happiest summers were there with your family, and now a little of that will hang in our home.”
“Thank you for driving three hours for my shower. Having you there, laughing in the corner like we were sixteen again, was the best part of the day. The sheets are beautiful too.”
“Thank you for the advice you wrote on the card. I’ve read it more than once, and I’m keeping it somewhere safe for the hard days.”
“Thank you for the hand-stitched apron. I can see how much time went into it, and I’ll wear it every Thanksgiving.”
Funny
“Thank you for the knife block. Marcus is no longer allowed to cut onions with the bread knife, so you’ve saved us all.”
“Thank you for the waffle maker! I’ve made waffles four days in a row and have no plans to stop.”
“Thank you for the lovely lingerie. I’ll say no more, except that it fit perfectly and you have excellent taste.”
“Thank you for winning toilet-paper-dress bingo with such dignity, and for the beautiful wine decanter.”
Formal
For hosts, your future in-laws’ friends, or anyone you met that day.
“Dear Mrs. Alvarez, thank you for the elegant serving tray and for joining us at the shower. It was lovely to meet you, and I look forward to seeing you at the wedding.”
“Dear Karen and Beth, thank you for hosting such a beautiful shower. The garden, the tea and the little favors were perfect, and I felt so cared for. I’m truly grateful for all your work.”
“Thank you for your thoughtful gift and kind wishes. I was so pleased you could come, and I appreciate your generosity.”
Do
- Name the gift and imagine it in your future home: the first soup, the first party, the first holiday.
- Write a separate, longer note to each host and mention a detail they planned.
- Keep a list of who gave what while gifts are opened. Ask a friend to write it down.
- Send shower notes before the wedding if you can, so they don’t pile up with wedding thank-yous.
Don’t
- Don’t say you’ll “see them at the wedding” unless you know they’re invited.
- Don’t combine a shower thank-you and a wedding thank-you in one note. Each gift gets its own.
- Don’t forget guests who mailed a gift; they often need a note most.
- Don’t make the funny lines about gifts you didn’t like.
How to write it
Begin with the guest’s name and the gift. If it came from a family recipe or a shared memory, say so.
Add a sentence about how it fits into your married life, or about seeing them at the shower.
For hosts, thank them for the planning, name a detail or two (the food, the games, the flowers), and tell them how it made you feel.
Questions
Within two or three weeks of the shower is ideal, and ideally before the wedding. If the shower was close to the wedding date, send them as soon as you can after.
Usually not, since the shower is for the bride. For a couples shower, sign from both of you.
Yes. A written note is still expected for shower gifts, even if you said thank you as you opened them.
One warm note to the group is fine, naming the gift and each person if there’s room. A short individual note to each is a lovely extra.
