Thank-you notes for money gifts
How to thank someone for a wedding cash gift
Thank them for their generosity without naming the amount, then say what the money is going towards, such as your first home, the honeymoon or a piece of furniture. Add a line about having them at the wedding and sign from both of you. Being specific about the plan is what makes a money thank-you feel personal.

Do
- Say what the money is going towards, even roughly: a home, a trip, a sofa, savings.
- If it funded a honeymoon moment, describe that moment. It lets the giver picture it.
- Thank them for being there, not just for the gift.
- Treat a check, cash, a gift card or a registry fund contribution the same way.
Don’t
- Don’t mention the amount, or call it “money” in a blunt way. “Your generous gift” is the usual phrase.
- Don’t say it went towards bills or debt in detail; keep it warm and general if that’s the truth.
- Don’t compare it to anyone else’s gift.
- Don’t wait to send the note until you’ve spent it. Say what you plan to do with it.
How to write it
Start with “Thank you for your generous gift” or something close. Generous, kind and thoughtful all work.
Follow with the plan: one concrete sentence about what it’s for. If you haven’t decided yet, say you’re saving it for something special in your first year together.
Finish with a line about the person or the day, and sign from both of you.
