Can I send a card without knowing someone’s address?
A mailed card needs a mailing address, but you don’t need to know it yourself. With a free Be Thoughtful account you can send someone a private link where they add their own address, which goes straight into your address book, or you can ask a mutual friend or family member to share it or pass the card on.
Ways to get the address
- Address request link: share a link by text or email (“I’m sending holiday cards, add your address!”). They fill in their name and address; they see only your first name.
- Ask a mutual friend or relative, or someone who organized an event they were at.
- For a colleague, send it to their workplace with their name on it.
- For a group card, the organizer can collect the recipient’s address once and everyone signs.
What not to do
Avoid people-search sites and guessing from old records: addresses there are often out of date, and someone may not want to be found that way. If they’d rather not share an address, a message or email is the right answer.
