For auto dealers & salespeople

The keys are theirs. Keep the relationship.

Buying a car is a big day for your customers, and then the dealership usually goes quiet until a service reminder. A handwritten thank-you after delivery, a card on the anniversary of their purchase and a birthday card every year keep you the first call for the next car, and the friend who needs one.

01

A thank-you after every delivery

Send each buyer a personal note the week they drive off. It is the kind of thing people mention when a friend asks where they bought the car.

Use the client thank-you template →
Example · Client thank-you
“Thank you for choosing us for your new truck, Marcus. I hope the first road trip is a great one.”

02

Purchase anniversaries

Add a purchase date column and send a card on the anniversary of their delivery, every year, to check in and say thank you.

Use the checking in template →

Why a card is worth it

People buy cars every few years and remember the salesperson who treated them like a person. A handwritten card arrives without a coupon or a sales pitch, and that is exactly why it is read and kept.

Repeat buyers and their referrals are some of the best customers a dealership has. A card a year per customer is a small cost against one returning sale, and once your list is uploaded it takes minutes to send.

Keeping cards appropriate

  • Keep cards free of prices, financing offers, payments or trade-in values: those can count as advertising with disclosure rules of their own. The writer stays personal, and you can edit every card.
  • Leave VINs and account numbers off the card.
